Richard Facioni, Managing Director
Richard is a Managing Director of the Silverfern Group and brings over 20 years of Mergers & Acquisitions, restructuring, recapitalisation, financing and investment experience to the Silverfern team. He has a deep understanding of the Australasian financial markets, having led high-profile and complex transactions and advised S&P/ASX 100 companies and private businesses, working closely with their boards of directors and senior management. Richard has experience across a variety of industries, including healthcare, financial services, metals & mining, tourism & leisure, transportation, infrastructure and general industrials.
Prior to joining Silverfern, Richard was a Managing Director and Co-founder of Shearwater Capital Group, a privately-owned investment and advisory firm based in Sydney and founded in partnership with Reservoir Capital Group. Richard was a member of Shearwater’s investment committee and was responsible for leading Shearwater’s investment efforts in special situations and private transactions. Prior to establishing Shearwater, Richard co-founded Rismark International, a residential real estate investment and research firm that was acquired by Macquarie Group in 2010.
Richard previously spent 15 years with Macquarie Group, where he was an Executive Director in investment banking. At Macquarie, Richard was Head of Acquisition Finance from 1997 to 2001, where he advised on, structured and arranged finance for buy-side transactions, including public company takeovers. He then became Head of the Macquarie Principal Transactions Group from 2001 to 2005, where he led a dedicated team that focussed on private investments, often as a co-investment partner with Macquarie’s corporate, private and financial sponsor clients.
Richard additionally has extensive experience as a company director, including current and former board positions for Bupa Australia, Club Hotels Group, Liberty Financial Group, Rismark International, River Capital, Symphony Healthcare and Tasman Capital.
Based in Sydney, Australia, Richard is responsible for originating proprietary investment opportunities for Silverfern’s investment partners, in addition to interfacing with senior CEOs and company founders and owners on the Silverfern Advisory Board in the Asia-Pacific region.
Richard earned his Master of Business Administration degree from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and his Bachelor of Engineering degree (with First Class Honours) from the University of Sydney. He is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.
